Well-Being In Schools

What if schools would be primarily concerned with students’ well-being, concerned with helping students to develop the capabilities needed to live a flourishing life – as students and later as adults? A vision of school education worth striving for? How might we go about achieving it? What do we need to consider? Where does this leave the teaching of traditional school subjects?

This six-part podcast series engages with the very idea of making school education primarily about student well-being and with questions that arise from such an undertaking. To this end, ten scholars were invited over Episodes 2 to 5 to speak to these and related questions. Episode 1 introduces the focus of this series, while Episode 6, the final episode, draws the ideas presented in the first five episodes together to provide a broad understanding of what it might, could, and maybe should mean for school education to be primarily about student well-being.

The host and his ten guests of this podcast series are authors and co-authors of chapters in the book Well-Being and Well-Becoming in Schools, published by University of Toronto Press. Ideas presented in this podcast series are based on contributions to this book.
