Volunteer FAQ

Do you have to be a student at the University of Manitoba to volunteer at CJUM?

As we are a campus & community radio station, anyone on the campus or in the community can become a volunteer at CJUM.

Okay, so I want to become a volunteer at CJUM - what's next?

We love new volunteers at CJUM! Your journey starts by filling out our volunteer application form, dropping it off at the station or emailing it to our volunteer coordinator! From there, you’ll set up a time to come in to attend a basic orientation session and will then schedule your first training session. All new volunteers must complete our training program in order to apply for a show, sign out cds or recording equipment and to represent the station at shows or community events.

Since you mentioned applying for a show, I have a great idea! How do I get my show onto the air at CJUM?

Once you’ve completed your training, we encourage you to provide us with your pitch. Our program director can get you a show proposal form and walk you through what’s required to make it official. The proposal then goes to our programming committee, made up of seasoned CJUM hosts, who will take a look at it to determine how it might fit within our existing schedule. Though all proposals are considered, preference will always be given to those that are unique and bring something new to the current line-up. The station’s mandate to provide opportunities for as many different voices and communities as possible, so we try to avoid duplication where possible. You should also be aware that we do our best to reserve daytime time slots occurring between 10AM and 4PM Monday through Thursday for current University of Manitoba students, faculties and student groups.
