  • Lindsay Gauld

Lindsay Gauld is an Olympic cyclist, bike shop owner, trail builder, bike courier, cycling advocate, and Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. He is a true living legend in Manitoba Cycling.

Starting out in hockey, then moving on to success in speed skating, he was introduced to bike racing in the 1960’s by friend and also future Olympian Peter Williamson.

He went on to represent Canada at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. His Olympic road race happened one day after the infamous hostage taking at those games.

That was just the early days of his involvement in cycling. He soon became a bike shop owner. Additionally, he became a trail builder culminating in organizing the Pan Am Games mountain bike races at Ski Birch in 1999. Other endeavours include starting as a bike courier at age 57, competing in the Alaska Iditabike race, and countless other cycling adventures.

This Pedalcast episode focuses on the journey of Lindsay’s entry in the cycling world to his determined pursuit of a place on Canada’s 1972 Olympic team.
