Episode 9: Sunshine House

Sun­shine House is a drop-in cen­tre locat­ed at the inter­sec­tion of Logan and Sher­brook which large­ly serves street-involved and home­less peo­ple, many of whom have addic­tions and are affect­ed by HIV and HCV. Sun­shine House offers basic sup­port ser­vices which include meals, laun­dry facil­i­ties, show­er facil­i­ties, cloth­ing depot, com­put­er access, access to harm reduc­tion mate­ri­als, and com­mu­ni­ty and resource infor­ma­tion. It is one of the only places in Win­nipeg that will allow sol­vent users, which is an extreme­ly mar­gin­al­ized population.

    Levi Foy is a two-spirit member of the Couchiching First Nation, raised on Treaty Two territory and formally educated in Winnipeg and Guelph, ON. A long time activist for LGBT+ rights and co-founder of numerous weekly community drag events, Levi also began Canada’s first Two-Spirit Pow-Wow and the Ghiziwenimin group to support queer newcomers to Canada. Foy, who also performs as local drag queen superstar Prairie Sky, was the co-curator of the GORGE Festival and was voted one of the Top Forty under 40 by CBC Manitoba in 2018.
