    Uzoma Asagwara is an addictions specialist, registered psychiatric nurse, educator, entrepreneur, mental health advocate and now the NDP Critic for Health, Seniors and Active Living.

    Uzoma has volunteered in leadership positions with several organizations, including Queer People of Colour Winnipeg, the Women’s Health Clinic and the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art. Uzoma is a former basketball player with the University of Winnipeg and the Canadian National Basketball team.

    Uzoma is a progressive and compassionate advocate for social justice, climate action, equity and positive change for all families in Manitoba.

    In 2019, Uzoma made history when they were elected as the first black, queer representative in the Manitoba Legislature.
