Jeannette Armstrong, PhD, is a founder of En’owkin, the Okanagan Nsyilxcn language and knowledge institution of higher learning of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. She holds a Canada Research Chair in Okanagan Indigenous Knowledge and Philosophy and is a revered author, educator, artist, and activist. In 2021, she has been named to the Order of Canada. This radio program is excerpted from her address to the International Conference on the Gift Economy in Las Vegas in 2004. She speaks about the essential nature of diversity in environment and in culture, and how communities are sustained by unilateral giving, deep listening, and genuine equality.
