On this episode of Turning Heads, I welcome fitness instructor and creator of Plantavor, Olivia Lee. In the first half of the episode, Olivia shares her perspective on the fitness industry and translates the moving messages communicated from her current position at Winnipeg’s own, The Community Gym. She identifies the transition of women involved in the fitness world and acknowledges the importance of recognizing one’s own strengths and abilities when taking up space in the realm of exercise and movement. In the second half of the episode, we move on to explore her new side hustle, Plantavor. As her business is still in its infancy, Olivia’s passion for developing delicious vegan recipes has already left her customers drooling and in awe of her creative touch. While acknowledging the joys of engineering a new business, she discusses the guilt she experiences when it comes to the monetary transaction between herself and her patrons. Olivia moves on to discuss the perfectionism associated with a vegan lifestyle and the many extreme assumptions that others hold with regards to choosing a plant-based diet. She then concludes the episode as she provides tips to those who are interested in flirting with the idea of becoming vegan.
