July 14, 2020: Indigenous team names, and how intent does not erase impact
On July 13th, the NFL’s Washington Redskins announced the club would finally be dropping their controversial name and logo, following years of backlash (along with a recent pull of advertising dollars and the requests of sponsors). Just as before, this news created an outpouring of argument online, punctuated by cheers as another team was admitting defeat, and removing problematic icons from their brand. On this episode of LTA, Jason dives into the discussion, to figure out where we go from here, setting his sites on one of his favourite childhood teams, the Chicago Blackhawks.
