February 23, 2021: Thomas Hobbes, the Texas Power Crisis, and What is a Government for?
Last week, as winter storm raged across the continental U.S., spurred on by a polar vortex which descended upon us all, Texas was thrown into a situation it hadn’t faced in generations. Frigid subzero conditions exploded pipes, covered roads in a sheet of ice, and knocked out power to most of the region, throwing the Lone Star State into a state of emergency. This prompted a now former Texas mayor to tell his constituents, “Figure it out.”
