The influence of John Coltrane is enough ahead of its time for the arrival of recent young players like Teodross Avery. Then there are vintage recordings like the rare French horn-ist John Graas with guitarist Howard Roberts. Lady instrumentalists & singers grace our airwaves next with Paula Harris and Nicki Parrott, vocalists plus piano and bass respectively. Saxophonist Dave Leibman is chaotic in tribute to his former employer Miles Davis, and we revisit a magnificent album with pianist Phineas Newborn with Ray Brown & Jimmie Smith the drummer. There are the blues with Spoon, Jimmy Witherspoon, in the Nixon erathings dont change much. Jim Cooper plays vibes, and Longineu Parsons plays brass to wrap hour # 1. Bill Evans goes and asks Alice, Poncho Sanches welcomes Chick Corea, and lean guitar playing is heard from Torontos Ed Bickert. Genuinely smooth and light jazz must be Freddie Hubbards Little Sunflower. The late trumpeter Roy Hargrove welcomes the late saxophonist Stanley Turrentine for a precious track, and we get a chance to spin Jamaican jazz with guitarist Ernest Ranglin. A pair of new releases conclude this episode, from vocalist Douye Quatro followed by bassist Avery Sharpe. Time to refile my records, neckties, drums AND COFFEE for another session, my destination for the duration, Hacksaw Jazz.
