This week we have in stu­dio one of Paci­fi­ca’s lega­cy jour­nal­ist Chris Koch.

Chris Koch began at Paci­fi­ca Sta­tion KPFA in 1960 edit­ing and record­ing for Arts and Lit­er­a­ture Direc­tor John Leonard, and would go on to record some of the most his­toric pro­grams in our collection.

Chris Koch pro­duced, nar­rat­ed and field record­ed some of the ear­li­est and most impor­tant record­ings in the Civ­il Rights Move­ment and Vot­er Reg­is­tra­tion Move­ment in the South Cap­tured in Free­dom Now and This Lit­tle Light, An excel­lent doc­u­men­tary on the 3 mur­dered Civ­il Rights Work­ers Good­man, Schw­ern­er and Cheney, The Vot­er Reg­is­tra­tion project Mis­sis­sip­pi Free­dom Summer.

Some of his most excep­tion­al work includ­ed a causal hang in New York with Che Gue­var­ra, An inti­mate inter­view with James Bald­win, record­ings as the first Amer­i­can Jour­nal­ist in North Viet­nam and an excel­lent ret­ro­spec­tive of Mal­colm X to name a few.
