May 22, 2019: Chris Koch Legacy Journalist
This week we have in studio one of Pacifica’s legacy journalist Chris Koch.
Chris Koch began at Pacifica Station KPFA in 1960 editing and recording for Arts and Literature Director John Leonard, and would go on to record some of the most historic programs in our collection.
Chris Koch produced, narrated and field recorded some of the earliest and most important recordings in the Civil Rights Movement and Voter Registration Movement in the South Captured in Freedom Now and This Little Light, An excellent documentary on the 3 murdered Civil Rights Workers Goodman, Schwerner and Cheney, The Voter Registration project Mississippi Freedom Summer.
Some of his most exceptional work included a causal hang in New York with Che Guevarra, An intimate interview with James Baldwin, recordings as the first American Journalist in North Vietnam and an excellent retrospective of Malcolm X to name a few.
