First Voices Indigenous Radio

Tiokas­in’s guest dur­ing this spe­cial repeat edi­tion is Tracey Osborne. Tracey is Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor in the School of Geog­ra­phy and Devel­op­ment at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ari­zona. Her research focus­es on the polit­i­cal ecol­o­gy of cli­mate change mit­i­ga­tion in trop­i­cal forests, par­tic­u­lar­ly the role of Indige­nous peo­ples, and ques­tions of cli­mate jus­tice. Tracey found­ed and directs the Cli­mate Alliance Map­ping Project, a col­lab­o­ra­tive effort between aca­d­e­mics, envi­ron­men­tal NGOs, and Indige­nous orga­ni­za­tions work­ing for a social­ly-just response to cli­mate change through research, maps and dig­i­tal stories.

In the sec­ond por­tion of the show, we include a pre-record­ed audio seg­ment fea­tur­ing five Indige­nous wom­en’s per­son­al sto­ries of strug­gle, which were relayed at the Inter-Amer­i­can Com­mis­sion on Human Rights in Jamaica in May 2019.
