Fascinatin' Rhythm

On the eve of September 11, we wish , once again, to honour the great city that has inspired so many tune smiths over the past century plus. If you have spent any time in this incredible city you will know the all-encompassing importance the City assumes in your world-view. Given that and the local origins of so many songwriters it is no surprise that among the pop lyric subjects of the 20’s to 40’s era especially, New York and its inhabitants have enjoyed a very special prominence. The New York classic song is not the brutal, inhuman darkness that the media often relate. It’s the overwhelmingly positive New York of neighborhoods , sophistication, dynamism, and infinite possibility. It’s a New York that still exists, if you look for it; a New York that inspires tremendous pride and loyality in its residents. Long Live New York, New York., and it wonderful Manhattan Serenades.
Invited guests include Mel Torme Keely Smith, Tony Bennett, Betty Roche, Duke Ellington, Ehud Asherie , Harry Allen, Rosemary Clooney/The Hi-Lo’s, John F.
