Fascinatin' Rhythm

Trumpeter/​Arranger/​Leader/​Composer Mer­cer Elling­ton would have been 100 years young on March 11th if things had been dif­fer­ent. While he toiled , for the most part, in his father’s shad­ow, he still left us with some clas­sic jazz pieces such as Blue Serge, Moon Mist, Things Ain’t What They Used To Be, and Jumpin’ Pump­kins. He was also the musi­cal direc­tor and con­duc­tor for the revue of his father’s music, Sophis­ti­cat­ed Ladies’, and his record­ing, Dig­i­tal Duke’, won a Gram­my for best big band instru­men­tal per­for­mance.
