Fascinatin' Rhythm
Crazy ‘Bout Cole (Porter) — celebrating arguably the finest popular American composer of the 20th century, give or take Irving Berlin. Cole Albert Porter was born in the same city as another great American composer, Hoagland Carmichael, in Peru, Indiana on June 9, 1891. Thus, he would be 128 today if the gods would have been somewhat more compassionate.. Before he passed of kidney failure October 15, 1964, he left the world with an incredible legacy both as a lyricist and composer. Only Berlin, and Frank Loesser to a much lesser degree, could boast of such a talent in those days of Renaissance writing.British composer Howard Goodall once stated that Porter was one of the four most important composers of the last century, along with Leonard Bernstein, Bernard Herrmann, and the Lennon-McCartney partnership. Some of the classic songs he left us with include Night And Day, I Got You Under My Skin, Every Time We Say Goodbye, Love For Sale, What Is This Thing Called Love, Easy To Love So In Love, Long Last Love, and I Get A Kick Out Of You to name just a very few. Cole once said “it seems stranage to me that changes in my lyrics are often made, and even changes to the music, without anyone even asking my permission. In 1946 he received $300, 000.00 for writing ‘Night and Day’.
