April 28, 2023: 004 - Doctor Renewable’s poet-in-residence Kathy Fisher reads from her climate change collection— “Shell Queen” and “Always Knew (I Loved the Sky)”. Kathy’s poems provide an artistic expression that supports the renewable energy transition to eliminate the risk of biodiversity loss, a risk that is widening as the fossil fuel resource industry registers record sales of coal, oil and natural gas, exceeding 9 trillion last year.
Kathy introduces us to Petropoetics which refers to poetry about fossil fuels representing an artistic visualization of the culture surrounding oil and gas. Kathy reads her poem entitled “Shell Queen” which was commissioned by Shell Canada and showcases the hardship of workers labouring in the Alberta tar sands. Kathy then reads her poem entitled “Always Knew (I Loved the Sky)” where she plays upon our infinite concept of sky we hold on to; through her poetic words, she tells us not is all well with Sky in the era of climate change. Things take a turn for the worst when Eric tries to introduce Renewpoetics and tries a poem of his own. Robert cries ouch…
