For Mom

Now I have to sing something louder than I have before
Let the chorus console me.

Grief is the singer in my band, a shortcut straight to the truth
A spirit searching for her second life.

Grief is love run backwards, a great movie in reverse
Sweet seasons help me to know the reasons for letting go.

So fill to me the parting glass
I swear in the days still left
Show me a garden that's bursting into life.

I've got a good mother and her voice is what keeps me here
And with my eyes closed, I listen in the night
Always remember sweetheart, I will always be there for you.

Venus Envy celebrates Pride 2022

Today, we're feeling alllll the feelings.

While Venus Envy always strives to feature diverse artists, as its host and programmer, I know that I can always do better. I have been listening, and learning, and will continue to work to be a better ally to black folks and other people of colour. Tonight, the show features exclusively black female artists, and not a lot of commentary from me. I wanted to use my platform to centre the voices of these artists, as well as share a resource I've found helpful: How to Be an Anti-Racist Ally by Sophie Williams.
