The research supports this, but sadly most students continue to rely on methods like rereading and cramming, which are ineffective for long-term memory retention.

Michelle Pearson from Student Counselling and Edgar French from the Spiritual Care and Multi-Faith Centre are back on the show to take a deeper look at the topic of somatic abolitionism, a way for students to confront racialized trauma.

Racialized Trauma is the emotional effect of racism and discrimination against people of color. As racialized trauma is passed down through generations, it becomes decontextualized, but the trauma is internalized and remains in the body, nonetheless. Carrying this trauma in the body each day can lead to decreased feelings of safety and inclusion for Indigenous bodies and Bodies of Culture.

This ongoing group is for students who identify as Indigenous or Bodies of Culture and will focus on understanding the impact of racialized trauma, recognizing how racialized trauma may be presenting in the body and learning individual and community healing strategies to help settle the body. This group will focus on active body practices and processing of feelings that arise within the body when considering racialized trauma.

Registration info for "Healing the Soul Wounds of Racialized Trauma" can be found at the following link.
