"chronicling the tunnel's eternal return to debt" conveys artist BINT Mbareh's research on Palestinian ways of knowing to Treaty 1 territory. In this work, sound is both communicative content and a medium of passage, transgressing colonial borders and discrete bodies as a wave.

The work is installed for close listening at Video Pool's Poolside Gallery (100 Arthur Street, second floor) Wednesday to Friday afternoons from 1:00-5:00pm. 

Bint Mbareh is a sound researcher with a focus on water in palestine. her interest in the physical parallel between the water wave and the sound wave leads her into questions of border dissolutions (between bodies, between states, between tenses), and into the possibility of being enveloped by the voice, by sounding communally similarly to being enveloped by a water body. she challenges settler colonial epistemology by taking seriously palestinian ways of knowing, from rain-summoning music to shrine pilgrimage as an instigator to political revolution.

Recent Grammy winner Allison Russell joins me on the show in advance of her March 3rd show at the Park Theatre and discussed the creation of her great sophomore release (under her own name), The Returner.

Octavius Kahiya (who hosts Something Like It Fridays at 5pm) joins me to discuss his other show, the Afro-Amalgamation Podcast which is produced out of and hosted by UMFM but is an offshoot of the Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program which Kahiya is involved with.

Sometimes things just seem to fall into place. Earlier this week I lost a friend and UMFM lost a great programmer when Gail Comfort passed away. I was already planning to re-air an interview I did on Turning Pages with singer-songwriter Tara MacLean about her memoir Song of the Sparrow and include a selection from the accompanying album Sparrow. Gail would have loved the stories MacLean shares about songwriting, touring and Lilith Fair among other things. I also had an interview with Matt Andersen lined up in advance of his March 30th show at Club Regent and I think she would have enjoyed his new record as she'd played his works on Comfort Cafe in the past.

Today, October 7, 2022 is World College Radio Day. The theme this year is "Peace" so I have some songs to reflect on that, and a whole bunch of great new music as well. No guests and not much talk.

On October 6th at the Park Theatre, Polaris Prize nominee Basia Bulat brings her retrospective/reinterpretation album The Garden to a Winnipeg audience. I got to speak to her about making the record and more. Opening for Bulat that evening is Saskatoon artist Katie Tupper whose EP, Towards the End, is a phenomenal slice of neo-soul. We spoke about how she found that sound and what's next.

Plus, since September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation all other music is by Indigenous artists.
