Transmissions Incoming: Send + Receive v16
This October marks the 16th annual edition of send + receive: a festival of sound!
For this very special edition we have invited artists from across Canada, the US and Korea to present works that explore ideas of physical sound. Through performances, screenings, artist talks and site-specific installation we will showcase a broad and inspiring range of approaches and concepts that relate to this years theme, keeping you surprised, engaged and thoroughly stimulated.
Featuring physically encompassing works that will; modify a venue into a large acoustic instrument played by the touch of one artists fingertips (Ellen Fullman) – surround the audience in continuous motion and sound through visceral dance and cello improvisations (Okkyung Lee & Michelle Boulé) – change the way that we feel and perceive sound and how it moves around & within us (Sarah Davachi & Alvin Lucier) – make inaudible frequencies in our environment audible and beautiful (Donna Legault). To hands-on works that pull, scrape, twist and manipulate objects and sounds to generate uniquely textural pieces from bombastic and intense to delicate and sensual (Jason Lescalleet, kiiln, Burden), including experiments in amplified chemical reactions and physical phenomena (Erin Sexton).
We guarantee a fascinating and enthralling four days!
Attached is the full press release with a statement from our Director crys cole as well as a calendar outlining the events. Festival passes are available starting this week at Into the Music (McDermot Ave.).
