As they’ve been doing since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Bandcamp is once again forgoing their cut of sales on Bandcamp Friday (the first Friday of each month — from Midnight to Midnight Pacific Time) and December 4, 2020 is the last one before the end of the year and right in the midst of peak gift-giving season. It’s a great opportunity to put money in the hands of the artists and labels directly during a period when many would be performing seasonal concerts and earning income from opportunities that are nearly impossible during Code Red conditions.

We strongly encourage you to head over to Bandcamp tomorrow to make a purchase (digital / physical / merch) from an artist you’re a fan of; whether they’re a local act or a performer from around the world you’ve discovered thanks to hearing their work on UMFM. The entire live music ecosystem is in peril because of Covid so it’s a border-less problem that finds artists everywhere needing some help.

For a couple-UMFM related suggestions, Julien’s Daughter will be releasing their new cassette The Static That Carries Over in January 2021 and you can pre-order it now. The band is fronted by Emma Murphy, host of Friday afternoons’ Sunlit Youth. Vagina Witchcraft’s self-titled album has been working it’s way up our charts, and was recorded by our Production Coordinator, David Dobbs (who also hosts HLL!YH! WPG! on Mondays).

And while it’s not through Bandcamp (where you can find their Polaris-nominated Studies in Grey), Super Duty Tough Work have new merch for sale via Instagram. It’s not just artists who could use your support as venues are shuttered so we recommend The Park Theatre’s new t‑shirts and hoodies and the Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club are offering curbside pick-up and delivery of their merch as well as We Still Gotta Lotta Livin’ To Do, a new 2CD collection of tunes from many of the great acts that have graced their stage.

Speaking of gracing stages, our friends at Manitoba Music have included virtual holiday concerts on their Live Music Listings page and in addition to putting together a playlist of Christmas tunes by Manitoba acts, have also provided a healthy list of links to support the artists directly.
