The UMFM staff and volunteer team are devastated to learn of the loss of one of our own. Earlier this week, Kipp Kocay passed away unexpectedly. Kocay first joined UMFM as part of the band of brothers behind Music From The Moon and his spoken-word segments as part of that show were a weekly joy.

A talented musician who recorded his first UMFM Live Session nearly a decade ago, Kocay released five albums (including 2014’s Heart Like Mine and 2018’s April and Other Months), all of which demonstrated his subtle songwriting skills and wryly humorous take on the world.

For the past year Kocay had been hosting Kipp Interviews His Friends, a series of socially-distanced conversations that featured the wide circle of people that Kipp had drawn into his orbit. The word Raconteur didn’t do Kipp justice.

This station, the people who knew him, and this city will not be the same without him.

Rest easy Kipp.
