Theatre Reviews

This show, as well as their previous show, has enjoyed wide acclaim among critics and fringegoers alike. Unfortunately, I don’t much share their enthusiasm. Granted, the show is well produced and well choreographed and there are some striking visual effects. But, in the end, there didn’t seem to be much point to it. The show proceeds in a series of unrelated sketches. Most of the sketches depend mostly on sight gags and the bizarre behaviour of the performers. A fair portion of the audience were laughing a lot over the course of the show, but I found it to be only sporadically amusing and occasionally tedious. To me, what was happening on the stage reminded me of a crazy dream in which weird random events occur one after another, and nothing seems to make any sense. It seemed to me as if the makers of the show’s only objective was to see how many weird scenes they could fit in to it. If this was their intention, they certainly succeeded.

I didn’t mean to imply this show was terrible, because it wasn’t. Suffice it to say, it wasn’t to my taste.
