Theatre Reviews

This play first saw an audience at the MAP/Scirocco High School Playwriting Competition (Portage la Prairie must have a really good drama teacher, because a lot of plays from that city made it to the finals of that competition). Anyway, it’s a comic version of the sea voyage genre that has been with us for a couple of thousand years. Doing something original with the story is a challenge, but playwright Anna Gervais pulls it off.

Adding to the fun are some clever sight gags and a cast that throw themselves into the spirit of the thing. I wish that this play had played to a smaller venue, because the size of the Warehouse stage worked against the pace and visual images, and a closer connection to the audience would have helped the play take off.
