Theatre Reviews

Although this play touches on two very dark subjects (human trafficking and forced marriages), it is both funny and charming. The audience members” who join the bride-for-sale onstage give the show another level.

The main character, wearing a wedding dress, tries to solicit a husband from the audience. She tells us how she came to Winnipeg to get a husband to buy her so that she can settle her father’s gambling debts: not a funny situation, but the lead actor carries it off with her innocent abroad” take and her comic timing.

As I watched the play, I found myself thinking of the many real people in desperate circumstances, and my reluctance to do more to help them.
