Theatre Reviews

If you plan to see Die Roten Punkte at The Pyramid, you should make it a double-header and take in this exquisite expression of a Romanian folk tale, The story illustrates many common motifs from European folk tales: forbidden love, the mystery, danger and allure of the forest, kindness to strangers, and animals who speak. The trick is in the telling, and these two artists weave a complicated but rewarding tale, assuming multiple characters through deft use of voice, posture, and minimal props such as a scarf .

They also sing some Romanian folk songs beautifully, songs that come across even if, like me, you do not speak Romanian. You need to pay close attention to take it all in, but the effect is well worth the effort, and the production deserves far larger than the ten or so people in the audience the day I attended.
