Theatre Reviews

The old cliché says write what you know. Rob Gee is a psychiatric nurse, so his story of two friends escaping their care home to attend a heavy metal concert has the ring of truth. This is not one of those geezer comedy sketches, though. The characters are three-dimensional and the play has a lot of heart. We get to know and love the two men in their quest to escape not just their restrictive, humdrum home, but their loneliness and fears for the future.

I loved the script; it could be very useful as a teaching tool for play structure. The performances, as one would expect from these two, are great. This production is screamingly funny, but with just the right seasoning of compassion and dramatic tension. I suspect it will sell out every night, so you’d be well advised to book in advance.
