núna (now), happening now!
núna (now) hits the ground running on May 12 with a fantastic new series of Icelandic and Canadian events, taking place in Winnipeg and Gimli through May 21. Don’t be one of those who hears about the fun later and cries bitter tears about missing it — make your plans to attend núna NOW!
A few words from the curatorial committee
It’s an important and exciting year for núna (now): our fifth. Once again we’re pleased to offer you some thrilling new art from Iceland in almost any discipline you can name, alongside complimentary work from right here in Canada.
Every year núna (now) changes in some way – it would be less interesting both for you and for us if it did not – and to mark our half-decade of existence, this year we’ve concentrated our programming like the Minute Maid does her lemons, into one full and spectacular week of North Atlantic frolic.
This year’s treats include a compelling new dance work, or perhaps we should say A Provocation Pure and Simple! It’s not to be missed; nor is the specially-commissioned work being performed on the same program by two Manitoba dancers. We have Miri -bustle-shaking music from Iceland with local stars Royal Canoe; a series of rock documentaries chronicling the unique Reykjavík scene; the always-popular lecture from academic Laurie K. Bertram, and of course our singular goodtime parties and receptions.
We have no end of fun assembling these programs for you, and will be very pleased if you’ll join us for this week of wonders. The Icelandic art scene is so rich and spiky and true and beautiful that sharing it with our fellow Manitobans, in Winnipeg and in Gimli, feels like the one good deed that will get us all into A?sgard. We’ll see you soon, at núna (now)!?
