Human Rights Film Festival Launchs March 21.
The Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties is proud to introduce Manitoba’s newest film festival and cultural event. The March 21st: Human Rights Film Festival! This festival was developed in 2010 to increase public awareness of the work needed for the elimination of social inequality and racial discrimination. It highlights March 21 the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and showcase a film selection that address human rights concerns and issues regarding racism and social inequality. The festival aims to draw attention to these issues and to promote discussion around them.

Monday, March 21st
Province of Manitoba DVD launch: “My Home is Manitoba” Diversity Awareness for Newcomers — Opening night reception and refreshments to follow, 6pm doors open, 6:30pm program starts, at the Garrick Cinema — FREE.
Tuesday March 22nd
“Live/Life From 95” short film & panel discussion about the reality and impact racism and social inequalities have on Aboriginal and Immigrant youth, 7:30pm, Millennium Library — FREE.
Wednesday March 23rd
“On Our Watch” short film, life stories from a Holocaust Survivor & Lost Boy of Sudan; discussion of the impact & reality of racism & genocide, 7:30pm, Millennium Library — FREE.
Thursday March 24th
Short film program and Q & A with filmmakers — 1pm, Millennium Library
Youth filmmaking Workshop — 2:30pm, Millennium Library
Feature film “Grand Rapids” with short film “Overburden”, Q & A with filmmakers, 7pm, Garrick Cinema.
All events are FREE.
Friday March 25th
Stories from The Human Library Lunch & Learn: The “Human Books” share their lives and experiences of Winnipeg’s first Human Library, 12pm, Millennium Library — FREE.
Feature film “Billy” with youth film making challenge winner “In the Locker”, Q & A with filmmakers, 7pm, Garrick Cinema -$5 at the door (includes admission to closing night reception).
Saturday March 26th
Screening of the feature film “Seeking Refuge” with poetry reading by Faiza Hargaaya, Q & A with filmmaker, 7pm, Garrick Cinema, $5 at the door (includes admission to closing night reception).
Closing night reception. Music performances by “La Clave del Sol”, light snacks provided, CASH BAR, 9:30pm, Radisson Hotel.
