Happy Holidays From UMFM!
We are rapidly approaching the end of 2019 — and the decade (!) — and over the holidays, our normally scheduled programming takes a break along with the University of Manitoba.
Starting Saturday December 21st and running until Wednesday January 1st, the station offices will be closed and while some programs will run as usual, others are taking a break and in their stead we’ll be bringing you some special seasonal programming. During the break some of our syndicated talk programming, including Democracy Now will be airing repeats or may be pre-empted for some seasonal or end of the year specials.
This is by no means a complete list, but we wanted to give you, our esteemed listeners & supporters a heads-up on some of what’s in store during those days.
SATURDAY December 21 Drifter In The Dark’s Paul McAvoy will air a special two hour episode running 9 – 11 PM before handing things off to Super Synth for a two hour special of their own. Both shows will do this again on the 28th!
SUNDAY December 22 Lyle Skinner will have a special Christmas with the Celts edition of Waxies Dargle from 5 – 6 PM.
MONDAY December 23 our pals from local comedy troupe HUNKS will return to our airwaves, bringing their own brand of good cheer and merriment to UMFM at 5 PM.
TUESDAY December 24 for Christmas Eve, Mr. Buckles of Buckle-Up Radio brings his bag of goodies and unpacks some aural treats for listeners from 9 – 11 PM on his 7th annual holiday show!
WEDNESDAY December 25 we celebrate the big day in style, airing a whole pile of Christmas episodes from some of your favourite UMFM programs, plus a couple of ghosts from UMFM past, for 24 hours straight — folk, jazz, rock & pop there’s something under our tree for everyone.
THURSDAY December 26 Can We Hang’s Myles Erickson hosts a six-hour Boxing Day Blowout from 11 AM — 5 PM and the International Feel fellows will be bringing in some guests including former UMFM programmer Ali Cekirge and his Turkish Delights for a globe-spanning sonic journey from 8 PM to midnight.
FRIDAY December 27 Well if you thought 6 hours was a feat, brace yourself for the 2nd Annual Marathon of Mudge as Tell The Band To Go Home’s Jeff Robson attempts to broadcast for 12 hours straight from 11 AM to 11 PM. We gave him the day, but we’re not certain he can survive it a second time!
TUESDAY December 31st Starting at 4 PM and running through the end of the year, Station Manager Jared McKetiak and Program Director Michael Elves recap their Top 20 Songs and Albums of the year. This marks the 15th annual edition of the countdown show for the pair, which will re-air the morning of WEDNESDAY January 1st after which we’ll have a two-hour edition of UMFM’s newest loud show, The Hard Line from 3 – 5 PM and an extended edition of Dagwood Radio from 6 – 8 PM!
Finally, thank you for reading, listening and supporting the station — we couldn’t have met and exceeded this year’s Pledge-O-Rama goal without your help and we’re excited to get that new antenna in 2020!
From our radio family to you and yours, we wishing you nothing but the best over the holidays and in the year ahead!
