This year’s festival promises to pack a powerful punch!

A tattooed teen, family feuds, Immaculate Conception and a paranormal comedy – this diverse range of plays all explore the theme of power! Sarasvàti Productions presents FemFest 2014: She’s Got The Power, the 12th annual theatre festival of life changing theatre written by women for everyone. This year’s line-up explores how power shapes and defines the ways we interact with others and the world around us. Featuring local and national talent, FemFest2014 invites Winnipeg audiences to experience theatre that challenges the status quo while empowering the voiceless.

Not only does FemFest2014 squeeze war, psychic abilities, tattoo addictions, and free brownies into this year’s line-up, it also features interactive and educational workshops by guest artists. One workshop by Vancouver-based playwright Tara Travis will facilitate communication through the use of outspoken puppets. Travis has been a hit at recent Fringe Festivals with her performance of Till Death: The Six Wives of Henry VIII, which received rave reviews. Of course the festival also continues the tradition of developing local playwrights with the world première of two plays: Rebecca Gibson’s The Naked Woman was chosen by last year’s Bake-Off audience and will receive a full production and Tyler White’s Launched was in the Bake-Off two years ago. FemFest is truly helping to create and showcase the work of female artists!

FemFest runs at the University of Winnipeg Asper Centre for Theatre and Film (400 Colony Street) from September 13 – 20, 2014. Tickets are $10 for single shows with the full festival being available for a $50 festival pass. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 2045862236. FemFest welcomes all audience members to join in a celebration of female artists and experience a taste of the local and national art scene.

Founded in 2003 by Sarasvàti Productions, FemFest presents the work of both established and emerging artists from across Canada. The festival’s mandate is to produce one-act plays by women and showcase women theatre artists.
