Cana­di­an Rivers Day is a day for Cana­di­ans to rec­og­nize the impor­tance that rivers have played in devel­op­ing our coun­try and the nat­ur­al envi­ron­ment we have to enjoy.

Rivers West Red Riv­er Cor­ri­dor, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Oak Ham­mock Marsh Inter­pre­tive Cen­tre, has planned activ­i­ties from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 10, 2012 to cel­e­brate this impor­tant day. Admis­sion is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for chil­dren, or $20 for a fam­i­ly pass. All pro­ceeds go towards envi­ron­men­tal edu­ca­tion.

The days events, all of which take place in the the­atre at the Oak Ham­mock Marsh Inter­pre­tive Cen­tre is shap­ing up like this:

1 – 4pm — Browse the Youth in Sup­port of Rivers” art sub­mis­sions on dis­play at the the­atre.

1pm — Overview of Rivers West activ­i­ties in the com­mu­ni­ty, and recog­ni­tion of the par­tic­i­pants of the Youth in Sup­port of Rivers” Art Ini­tia­tive. w/​Mr. Adil Mour­jane — Event Coor­di­na­tor from Rivers West Cor­ri­dor.

1:10pm — Intro­duc­tion to the Flows like a Riv­er” relay chal­lenge and dis­cus­sion about water­ways, wildlife and the role of wet­lands. w/​Ms. Nathalie Bays — Man­ag­er, Inter­pre­tive Cen­tre Oper­a­tions, Oak Ham­mock Marsh

1:30pm — ‘‘Flows Like a Riv­er’’ Relay Chal­lenge. Groups will flow” through eight sta­tions which will include activ­i­ties such as crit­ter dip­ping, riv­er obsta­cle course, water relay, and more!

3pm — Par­tic­i­pant prize draws and clos­ing in the Inter­pre­tive Cen­tre the­atre!

The cen­tre will remain open until 4:30 pm and all are encour­aged to explore! The cafe­te­ria will be open from 11am until 4pm.
