Saturday September 30, 2023 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across Canada and to mark the day, UMFM is pleased to be part of a country-wide broadcast of a special program that will preempt our regular programming from 6am to 6pm CT. Produced by Orbyt Media in partnership with The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, A Day To Listen is hosted by three phenomenal artists: recent Polaris Music Prize shortlisted Oji-Cree singer-songwriter Aysanabee; Juno award-winning member of Digging Roots and Anishinaabekwe community organizer ShoShona Kish; and Juno-winning singer-songwriter and the pride of Peguis First Nation, William Prince.

While UMFM participated in the inaugural edition of A Day To Listen in 2021, the program has expanded to include three 4‑hour segments that include stories and interviews from Indigenous community leaders, artists & creators, elders and more. This year’s special guests include Buffy Sainte-Marie, Dr. Amy Cardinal Christianson, Cindy Blackstock, and former NHL player Jordin Tootoo.
