Purple Sunshine: A Prince Tribute Party Supporting Sunshine House's Mobile Overdose Prevention Site
On April 21, 2016, Prince Rogers Nelson died from an accidental fentanyl overdose at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Today, the opioid epidemic continues to take lives around the world and our country is no exception. Between January and June 2022, an average of twenty people died each day in Canada due to opioid toxicity.
Meanwhile, in Manitoba, the conservative government actively pursues restrictive and dangerous legislation such as Bill 33, while grassroots community organizations like Sunshine House develop and implement progressive and transformative initiatives like their MOPS (Mobile Overdose Prevention Site) to meet and help people where they’re at: on the streets and in the community.
On Friday, April 21, at the Tallest Poppy, we are celebrating the life and music of Prince, on what will be the seventh anniversary of his death. Net proceeds from the event will be donated to Sunshine House to help sustain their work in the community, particularly around harm reduction and overdose prevention.
Share in all things Prince with Mama Cutsworth, DJ Hunnicutt, Wanda G and Hari Vajaijay. Doors 9 PM. $15 at the door. Thanks and love to our partners Synonym Art Consultation, the Tallest Poppy and Sunshine House.
