LUBOMYR MELNYK IN CONCERT ~ Continuous Music For The Summer Solstice
Sony Classics and Erased Tapes recording artist, Lubomyr Melnyk is one of the great living musicians and composers. He has even created a new genre called Continuous Music. Considered to be the world’s fastest pianist, in 1985, he set two world records, documented on film and with full audio, at the Sigtuna Stiftelsen in Sweden. He sustained speeds of over 19.5 notes per second in each hand, and played between 13 and 14 notes per second for one full hour. His amazing speed is intentionally developed and consciously used to create harmonic overtones and undertones which are blended into the melodic structure of his monumental compositions, some of which can last over an hour of non-stop playing. Yet the power and enormity of some of these works is balanced by the delicacy and beauty of his more meditative pieces. Each concert is unique, but the thing that has been consistent, is how he has stunned audiences around the world with his stupendous, almost other worldly performances. Lubomyr Melnyk’s playing at the 2017 Winnipeg New Music Festival completely electrified the crowd. His two subsequent sold out concerts at ClearLightSound were unforgettable musical experiences for all attendees. In this rare return performance, the Maestro will once again offer his audience a window into unheard of new musical dimensions. Lubomyr Melnyk has been called The Prophet Of The Piano, and the way in which he takes this classical instrument to a totally different level, making it into the voice of something transcendent, seems to suggest that this title is true. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the magic of a true genius.
