Live Sessions

  • Evangeline Gentle

In Winnipeg to play Winterruption, Evangline Gentle (and backing vocalist / guitarist Nick Ferrio) stopped by the station to play some selections from their self-titled record released on Sonic Unyon last fall.

  • À La Mode

À La Mode is an incredibly soft and sincere project. They’ve come to UMFM to shed some warmth in the deary winter days here in Winnipeg.

  • Paige Drobot

Paige Drobot’s live performance is quite different from the recordings she has released. Characterized by extensive improvised guitar solos, an instantly recognizable voice, and a rhythm section second to none.…all making Paige Drobot’s music come alive and drip with soul and expression.

  • Busch, Stones & The Lucky

Busch, Stones & The Lucky are one of Winnipeg’s best kept secrets, but hopefully not for too long… These guys came in a n nonchalantly laid down one of the best sessions of the year. Go check out the video session here!

  • Freaking Snap

FreakingSnap is the solo project of Chris Friesen. Spontaneous electronic compositions.

FreakingSnap is primarily fueled by coffee and pancakes, sweet glorious IPAs, at least 1 of the 3 available 1882 Fruit Based Hot Sauces, special occasion lemon meringue pies, pug photos from Kevin, a desire to to fill an entire iPod Classic with itself so its internal narcissist can only listen to itself, bad inside jokes and a lot of love for Lost and Michael Giacchino’s score for said program. I also have no real idea of what I’m doing most of the time except here (picture a picture of me sitting at The Nook), I know exactly how to methodically decimate a plate of pancakes, side of bacon and a couple of cups of coffee at The Nook. Anyone that wants to join me sometime hit me up. FreakingSnap is the solo musical project of Winnipeg artist Chris Friesen and also a Scorpio.

  • BLACK PINE

Local Winnipeg hardcore sludgers BLACK PINE came into the Studio 101 this weekend and peeled the effing paint off the walls with their bludgeoning sound.

  • Ivan Coyote & Sarah MacDougall

In town to perform their collaborative work, Trader Time, artists Ivan Coyote and Sarah MacDougall stopped by to perform an excerpt and sit down for a discussion of how it came to be. The pair — along with a woodwind section and visual accompaniment — play The Park Theatre on Thursday, November 14th.
