Cold Case Fest Pop-up Event! Carolyn Whitzman's "Clara at the Door With a Revolver"

Join Car­olyn Whitz­man, author of Clara at the Door With a Revolver: The Scan­dalous Black Sus­pect, the Exem­plary White Son, and the Mur­der that Shocked Toron­to, as she dis­cuss­es her his­tor­i­cal true-crime book with local author Zil­la Jones.

The Win­nipeg Free Press calls the book a riv­et­ing who­dunit that will tell you who didn’t. [A] ground­break­ing 19th-cen­tu­ry mur­der tri­al recalled in riv­et­ing, dra­mat­ic detail.”

This event is orga­nized by Win­nipeg’s Cold Case Fes­ti­val of Crime Lit­er­a­ture cel­e­brat­ing noir, mys­tery, true crime, thriller, and sus­pense fic­tion. Cold Case cham­pi­ons the increas­ing depth and breadth of the genre and the diver­si­ty of crime lit­er­a­ture’s cre­ators.

Car­olyn Whitz­man is a writer and hous­ing pol­i­cy researcher who lives in Ottawa. She is the author of Sub­urb, Slum, Urban Vil­lage: Trans­for­ma­tions in Park­dale, Toron­to 1875 – 2000.

Zil­la Jones is an African-Cana­di­an lawyer, anti-racist edu­ca­tor, moth­er, singer and award-win­ning writer from Treaty 1 ter­ri­to­ry. Her work is fea­tured in Jour­ney Prize 33: The Best of Canada’s New Black Writers.
