Live Your Life On The Fringe!
on July 15,2017 by jared

As always, UMFM's intrepid theater reporter Justin Olynyk, host of Play It Again (Wednesday nights at 8PM), and his team of reviewers will be in the middle of the action checking out some of the great plays and telling your all about them here!

Thirty years ago, in the summer of 1988, the WINNIPEG FRINGE THEATRE FESTIVAL took its first bow in the Exchange District with five indoor venues, an outdoor stage and 47 performing companies. The festival has grown exponentially over the last quarter century and when the 2017 Fringe kicks off July 19, festival-goers will have the chance to experience the diversity of more than 190 shows from across Canada and around the world.

Comedy, drama, music, improv, dance – there’s something for everyone at the Winnipeg Fringe. With TICKETS starting at $10, it’s inexpensive to take a chance on an unknown play, or pick up tickets to the hot show. Advance tickets are on sale now online or can be picked up in person at Fringe Central (MTC Box Office, 174 Market Ave., 204-942-6537). To see more theatre for less, a FREQUENT FRINGER PASS lets Fringe fans see 7 shows for $63 or 14 shows for $123. PROGRAMS are on sale now at Manitoba Liquor Marts, select Safeway stores, McNally Robinson Booksellers and the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.

As an extra added bonus, this year's Fringe will also feature an amazing lineup of fantastic local music at the CUBE in Old Market Square, with shows running daily at noon and 10PM!  This year's diverse lineup features the likes of the Noble Thiefs, Young Pixels, Mulligrub, the Dirty Catfish Brass Band, Romi Mayes, Sebastian Owl, Apollo Suns, the Middle Coast, Mama Cutsworth and more! Guaranteed, there's no better place to spend these hot summer nights, kicking back and enjoying a beverage or two with your friends!

For more information on the 2017 Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival, including Outdoor Stage and Kids Fringe schedules, please visit us at www.winnipegfringe.com. You can also call the Fringe info line at 204-942-6537.

on June 5,2017 by jared

Once again we've teamed up with our friends at the Winnipeg Folk Festival to give you a chance to win one of two full weekend passes with camping to this year's festival!

Our contest this year is simple - in your own words, we're asking you to paint a picture for us of your single favorite folk festival musical memory! Describe for us the best show you've seen at the festival - whether it be mainstage, small stage, workshop or solo and explain what made it stick out for you above the rest.

As mentioned above, the best story as picked by our judges will win one of two weekend passes for the festival, complete with a camping pass so that you can go make some more great musical memories this year!

Email your submissions to contest@umfm.com no later than June 28th at 6PM. Tell your friends, neighbors and folks you meet on the street - this is a sweet prize!

Whether You're Funny or Helpful - Oddblock Wants You!
on June 4,2017 by jared

Our friends at the Oddblock comedy festival are looking for a few good people to perform and pitch in at this year's festival - funny or not, there's a spot for you on the Oddblock team!

The organizers at Oddblock work hard behind the scenes to put together a solid line-up of some of the best comedians working today, bringing them all together for a big summer block party here in Winnipeg every year. But, inevitably, they are also approached by a lot of comedians who would like to be part of the festival, the bulk of whom they may not know. And for that, they have a handy submission process, which can be accessed by clicking here!

Volunteers Are Also Needed !

Would you like to volunteer at this year’s Oddblock Festival? Well they as it happens, the festival organizers are looking to put together a team of individuals just like you! If you're a responsible, respectable, team player who wants to help build this great festival and comedy community you can apply today!

Congratulations to Station Manager Jared McKetiak
on May 5,2017 by michael

This week marks 15 years of service at UMFM for Station Manager Jared McKetiak. While he's held the lead role at the station for over a decade, he got his start volunteering as a board op for Winnipeg radio legend Howard Mandshein and other great programs in the early years of the station before moving to the Program Director position.

During his decade and a half at UMFM, Jared has been involved at a leadership level with the Winnipeg Ska & Reggae Festival, the National Campus/Community Radio Association and more recently the Big Fun Festival as well as a strong supporter of many other local music, culture and issues festivals and initiatives.

He built the Pledge-O-Rama funding drive from the ground up and made it the annual success it has been, and has been a champion for the local arts scene and a tireless supporter of the volunteers who make the great programming at UMFM.

Big congratulations to Jared on his 15 years of service, and an even bigger thank you from the rest of us at UMFM.
